Welcome to Daystar Design, the biggest site on the internet featuring anime, manga, and video game guys. You won't find any "cute anime girl!!" graphics here (although we do have some couple/group ones). If you don't know what a bishounen (also called bishie) is you can visit the About Us page for our personal defintion of it, or check out the Wikipedia entry for a more official explanation of the term. You can also check the About Us page for info about the series we have chosen not to include on this site. So whether you're fangirl looking for graphics of your favorite guy, or you are just sick of all the girl graphics out there then you've come to the right place!

Tutorial: Adding Texture to Images

Here is a neat little effect that you can do to your images to make them more interesting. I would not suggest going overboard with this though, remember sometimes less is more! I'm sure there are multiple ways to do this technique this is just how I do it.

Requirements: Photoshop and some grunge brushes. If you need grunge brushes try: vbrush or my personal favorite The Fifth Muse Brush Gallery.

1.) Ok open up your image in a new canvas and make sure all of your grunge brushes are loaded. (Just to let you know this technique works best with image that have large blocks of color and aren't so detailed. Which is why it looks cool on vectors, and not so cool on detailed manga images.) I'm going to use two Inuyasha pictures for this (hope know one minds ^_^;;). I'm going to use 2 pictures so you can see the difference between adding the affect on darker color (Miroku) and lighter colors (Inuyasha).

2.) Now take the burn tool and change the settings a bit. First off change the brush for the burn tool to one of your grunge brushes. Then change the exposure depending on the color you are going to be adding texture to (like if your brush is really dark you will probably want a lower number for the exposure). You will also probably find it helpful if you use magic wand to isolate the color that you are going to apply the texture to.

3.) As you can see in this picture I just got done adding a tree texture to Miroku's hair. Personally I would suggest against adding texture to faces/skin. It looks dumb since in real life skin is smooth. Click here to see the final result. Well personally I think the pictures look more interesting now don't you?
